Vision

 Vision

Proverbs 29:18 a KJV -Where there is no vision, the people perish:

When most of us read or hear this the definition for vision that comes to mind is: A revelation from God; an appearance or exhibition of something supernaturally presented to the minds of the prophets, by which they were informed of future events.

While this is a correct definition it is not complete. We must also add this to it: The act of seeing external objects; actual sight.

How many of you when you get up from your seat in a room look at the doorway and then close your eyes or blindfold yourself because you used your eye sight i.e., vision to see where how you are going to leave so what is the point in using your eyes any more?  I would confidently guess that none of you do this.  Every day we lean on and trust our natural vision to navigate our world.  Our vision helps us to see the best ways to go, potential hazards, obstacles and opportunities.

Sadly, the majority of Christians don’t do this with their spiritual vision.  If we even have a vision for our life, we then shut our spiritual eyes, by not continuing to seek and listen and see what the Holy Spirit is speaking, and trust our own abilities to get us there or assume that the Lord is going to just supernaturally rain it down out of heaven or transport us there.  This is why the vision seems to be no closer than when we first received.  Even worse we miss multiple opportunities and blessings as well because our “eyes” are not open to see them.

2 Kings 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Understand this, the servant’s physical eyes where not the eyes that Elisha prayed to be opened.  Obviously, there was nothing wrong with his physical eyes because he could see the enemy army surrounding the city.  It was his spiritual eyes that were in need of opening for the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisa before the servant could see them.

You need not only A vision but you need vision every movement.  The key to success is vision.  To see what is all around you, every pitfall and every golden opportunity.  The God the Holy Spirit knows it all and if we will open our eyes, we will see that He is showing us, step by step, where and how to best avoid the pitfalls and where and how to best take advantage of the opportunities.

To paraphrase Elisa’s prayer, “Lord, I pray that we would open our spiritual eyes and use our spirit vision to see what the Holy Spirit is showing us right now.  To see who we are in Christ, what we have access to by your grace through faith as Your children, and how best to walk it out. In Jesus name, so be it.”

Report From second Ireland trip.     Arrived in Ireland on time and very blessed.  The Lord provided me access to an airport lounge for my layover in Washington DC and for a row by myself to stretch out on the plane flight over.  Superfast pick up of the rental car and off I went to Castledaly.    Castledaly is a wonderful retreat/summer camp facility.  There was actually another retreat going on the same time as Outreach Ireland’s retreat.  The European Christian Mission and I the great privilege of meeting and speaking with Jonathan McCracken who is a church planter currently planting a church in Claremorris, Ireland.  Being that church planting is a passion of mine and part of my calling/mission this was indeed a divine appointment.  I was able to exchange contact information and am hoping to build relationship with him. Outreach Ireland’s retreat was a Holy Spirit filled time of connection, relati...

Do we have big enough expectations?

Do we have big enough expectations?   How do you define hope?  Do you define it as most of the world has come to define it which is basically wishing?  Actually, hope is to have an expectation for something or that something will happen and this is especially true in a Biblical context.  Take a look at the following verses and every time you read hope say expectation.     Romans 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.    Romans 15:12-13 And again, Isaiah says: “There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, In Him the Gentiles shall hope.”  13  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.   Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evi...
